New Phoenix Site Incoming

Efforts are now underway to revamp the PHLPHX web site. Tearing down the old theme and going with something that is more flexible in nature. A new landing page for easy redirect to important hot spots is also in the final stages of development. It should help users get to where they need to be faster than ever while still staying apprised of important information concerning the team, the league, and local Ultimate. Teaser shot below. Looking at probably a week, two max, until deployment.

Insight Into Street Team Development

Finally starting to revamp development on a project for the Phoenix that is way overdue.

I just know that by the way this whole thing has been going so far and the nature of the community, that as we get rolling everything has got to embrace that grassroots type of feel. At one point we were discussing the idea of having our street team be our ticket sellers and now that I’ve explored our ticket provider’s system I know that the two need to stay separate.

So I think the idea is to go with two street teams, per say: one for the ‘streets’ and one for the digital universe. What I’ve learned through gaming and game design is that the carrot is king; power, respect, wealth – it’s juicy. Instead of linking arbitrary ticket sales to the identity of street teams I figure it’s best to link status and achievement.

Both teams will be achievement/rank based. Participants of the program will start out at rank 1. Accomplishing achievements will net the participant rewards based on current rank and difficulty of the achievement in question. Rewards like discounted tickets, free swag, and special badges and awards that will automatically link to a user’s forum account and street team profile – like a medal box. Accomplishing all the achievements will also bump the participant to the next rank with more achievements and rewards.

Right now I’m starting with a master list of objectives and ranks for both teams. Then as I have enough with appropriate prizes I’ll start grouping them up together where objective groups match rank levels and so on.

What I’ll attack later as we get closer to nailing down all specifics is the rank and awards theme. What would you prefer, you think? Something that is tied to the theme of the Phoenix team, or something more generic like actual service ranks?

Leave some ideas in the comments. I’ll post more about this as development continues.
